Physical Health and Trauma – The Connection
It’s often surprising how much our mental and emotional experiences can influence our physical well-being. Through my work with energy healing, I’ve observed how unresolved emotions, past trauma, and unprocessed experiences can sometimes coincide with physical symptoms—and how working with the energetic aspects of these patterns may support the body in finding balance.
How Trauma Can Influence the Body
When someone experiences a traumatic or highly emotional event, it naturally generates a strong response in both mind and body. These responses aren’t just feelings—they carry an energetic quality.
Normally, emotions are processed and released, but sometimes they remain unexpressed or unresolved due to:
Social conditioning (“keep it together,” “be strong”)
Fear of conflict or judgment
Feeling unsafe expressing emotions
Not knowing how to process the experience
Dissociation or shock during the event
Avoiding the memory because it feels too painful
When emotions remain unresolved, they may continue to influence the body in subtle ways, creating tension, stress, or a sense of imbalance in certain areas.
How the Body Responds
The body naturally adapts to try and contain or manage these unresolved energies. This can sometimes manifest as tension, discomfort, or recurring physical sensations in particular areas.
Certain patterns are commonly observed:
Back and shoulders: carrying heavy emotional burdens
Chest and lungs: feelings of overwhelm, grief, or difficulty “breathing emotionally”
Heart area: heartbreak, emotional loss, or betrayal
Throat: challenges expressing yourself
Head: overthinking, mental tension
Stomach: anxiety, fear, or insecurity
Circulation: emotional withdrawal, isolation, or disconnection
These patterns help us understand the connection between emotional experience and physical sensations.
The Role of Energy in Physical Well-Being
The development of physical symptoms can be influenced by many factors, including stress, lifestyle, and emotional patterns. Some responses appear quickly after trauma, while others may emerge gradually over time.
Energy healing works by supporting the body’s natural ability to regulate and restore balance. By exploring where energetic patterns may be held, we can gently work to release tension, support relaxation, and promote a sense of ease in the system.
Clients often report:
Reduced tension or stiffness
A sense of lightness or relief
Improved awareness of how stress or emotions affect the body
A feeling of balance or alignment
